Digital Transformation: Enhancing Interpersonal Skills and Well-Being for the Future of Work

How to Prepare Employees to Compete with Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Age of Digital Transformation

Are your employees ready to compete with AI for relevance in the age of digital transformation?

Recent news reported that scientists had reduced research time by at least ten years, using artificial intelligence to narrow down research possibilities for a new antibiotic that can kill superbugs. This is a very exciting and newsworthy report for advances in medicine and science but a step closer to complete digitalization.

As the conversation heats up about AI becoming a threat to humans, it is very surprising that more isn’t being done to prepare employees, leaders, and teams to excel in the digital transformation age.

Preparing for Digitalization in Work

Preparing for Digitalization

As more workplaces readily implement AI to take on tasks that once required humans, this is not a time to panic. It is incumbent on each of us to elevate our human skills or create a plan to do so.

Humans have skills that cannot be computed such as critical thinking and interpersonal skills like, compassion, teamwork, and values are human elements that cannot be duplicated by AI.

We must change our approach from reactive to proactive, all is not lostThere is still time to rebuild our curriculums and uplevel learning and training programs to teach human skills. The skills that make us human are unique, and when developed and optimized we still are the most dominant beings on earth.

Most of my research and work in the last two decades have been centered around the development of interpersonal skills and how they can be learned, trained, honed, coached, and elevated to improve relational well-being. I call it interpersonal wellness.

Developing Interpersonal Wellness Skills

My interpersonal wellness work has been the foundation for the wellness competency curriculum, used to train and coach employees and leaders to learn and improve well-being intelligence.

We have identified twelve competencies that promote human interpersonal wellness and well-being intelligence. Each month of the year, we provide strategies, training topics, activities, and mindset teachings to elevate one wellness competency for employees and leaders. We also provide e-courses and activities that reinforce the learnings.

As our workplaces race towards digitalization, and employees struggle to maintain their mental health, wellness competency skills are becoming more necessary to maintain harmony, happiness, and emotional wellness to preserve mental health at work.

Wellness Competency Curriculum Courses

Each week, I release an e-course from the wellness competency curriculum. This week’s course focuses on Compassion and Understanding. This course teaches skills of compassion, how to use compassion as a driving force for good using well-being intelligence to know the difference between self-compassion, when compassion turns into compassion fatigue, and ways to show compassion in action.

Digitalizing Workforce

In an increasingly digitalized workforce, our interpersonal skills and well-being intelligence will make employees indispensable.

Employees understand their ability to promote well-being through interpersonal communication and exchanges, is a powerful weapon we have at our disposal to compete with increasing digitalization. The time is now to improve those skills.
