Did you know that well-being is an integration of our minds, brains, and our relationships?
As more people become aware of the nine-dimensional wellness improvement system approach, I get asked about its origin and execution, thus I am hoping that this blog will help to provide some of the answers to some of your questions.
Nine-dimensional wellness improvement was created in response to tense interpersonal dynamics my clients were going through. As a Conflict Analyst, I was curious to know how intrapersonal conflicts related to the many interpersonal conflicts that repeatedly flared up in groups and teams. While one may be experiencing an interpersonal conflict with another, there is often a deeper intrapersonal conflict occurring within themselves that goes unresolved, because so much focus is put on the interpersonal dynamics.
In my quest to find solutions, I began asking questions about what was driving the conflicts, and how to help clients identify the intrapersonal conflicts that were at the root of those difficult and intractable situations. This led to me developing the nine-dimensional approach, that when applied by clients allowed for faster and more long-lasting results.
The nine-dimensional wellness improvement approach is dynamic wellness at its core. It allows for an integration of left and right brains hemispheres, that blends mindfulness, logic, intuition, and relationships, thus creating new neuropathways in the brain that leads to a state of total wellness and well-being. By integrating the mind, brain, and relationship. It engages both logic and intuition, by stimulating both the right and left sides of the brain, thus enhancing relational well-being.
It encourages people to assess and improve all nine life dimensions, thus continually fueling their lives with positive social vibrations to withstand the constant pressures of life. At the same time it enhances their relationships, mindset, success, well-being, and builds resilience. By always asking, "how well am I doing in these life areas, and how is my experience in this area impacting those in my relationships at work and in life", they stay engaged in a wellness improvement dialogue, thus they continue to attain higher levels of wellness, success, and well-being in all areas of life.
Many clients in conflict often struggle with hypertension, angina, depression, anxiety, panic attacks and a range of digestive and autoimmune diseases. Their symptoms are often exacerbated when their conflicts intensify. These high-stressed conflict situations weaken the immune system making them more susceptible to anxiety, depression, other mental illnesses, and chronic physical conditions. This, results in reducing an employee’s productivity at work.
Coupled with personal conflicts, family breakdowns, and even divorces, many more clients were facing stressful situations in their lives than ever before. This resulted in even more hostility at work and more stress related illnesses. I learned that by creating a safe and unobtrusive way for people to become aware of their intrapersonal conflicts, the interpersonal resolutions come faster and are longer-lasting.
As I began using the nine-dimensional method with clients, I was surprised that many of their symptoms and health issues were reduced significantly, or completely cleared up to the point where their medication dosages were lowered, or eliminated altogether. The stress levels for those in close proximity to the conflicts were also lowered, resulting in a much more harmonious work environment for all.
Thus, the concept of interpersonal wellness was born and grew into the nine-dimensional Wellness Improvement System® (WIS). WIS helps people become aware of the intrapersonal conflicts that may be lurking in any of their nine life dimensions, causing them to feel unsettled or unwell. By completing the WIS assessment, my clients stimulate both the right and left brain, providing a blend of logic and intuition. This creates in them a deep desire to improve those areas where they were not doing as well, thus their attention was focused on self- improvement and their own personal well-being. It was years later that I came upon the work of Daniel Siegal on Interpersonal Neurobiology, and this quote, "mindfulness is a profound integrative process in the mind, brain, and relationships.....thus associated with well-being." This and other references to the integration of left brain and right brain activities helping to foster well-being, has served to confirm the successes of nine-dimensional wellness improvement with clients.
Since its inception, the nine-dimensional WIS approach has helped thousands of people globally, and I have had the pleasure of training and certifying many brilliant people to use the method in their own coaching and training businesses.
In addition to increasing productivity levels, the nine-dimensional WIS approach is based on more than 20 years of practical application, sound theory and research. I have had the opportunity to gather a significant library on supporting evidence to show the validity of the concept.
We continue to use the nine-dimensional approach to increase engagements, improve mindsets, and develop relational well-being and resilience with employees and groups. I continue to teach, train, consult, design and supplement workplace wellness programs, using this approach to either create a structure, or enhance what’s already available within the organization. Because employees have diverse needs, interests and learning styles, the nine-dimensional WIS programs and resources can be customized, allowing our team to support diverse needs and cultural requirements to give our clients a full-scale workplace wellness program, that truly meet the needs of all employees.

I am humbled when clients share how the concepts learned in the nine-dimensional wellness program at their workplaces or group process have positively impacted their marriages, relationships with their children, and in their communities.
Extension and Implementations
The nine-dimensional concept now includes the much needed wellness competencies, to measure and assess a return on investment on wellness activities, something more corporate clients are beginning to show interest in applying to their wellness programs. This we know will enable many organizations to tie their current workplace wellness activities to one or more competency development.
