These are the ones that get us moving, they motivate our ambitions and actions. While too much stress or chronic stress can wear us down and bring on illnesses, good stressors help us grow, develop and contribute to our world and our lives.
Good stress gets us out of bed in the morning, it gels us to brush our teeth and take a shower every morning and get us out the door to work or school. This kind of stress is good for us because they give our life meaning and purpose. They provide us with direction or a reason to live. In the absence of good stress, we would have no meaning or direction in life and we would live without aim nor purpose; in a depressed state.
The saying goes, “Too much of anything is good for nothing.” As such, we can have too much or too intense good stress, which can lead to overwhelm and burnout. Enjoying your work is fine, but too much work can make one a workaholic. Managing stress requires us to have a balance of how much and how intense or long we let good stress persist in our lives without a break.
Here are a few things you can do to ensure you don’t get overwhelmed with too much good stress. They include: taking breaks, having one day off per week, doing something fun and enjoyable or changing the nature of our focus more often.
I encourage you to come up with two things you can do to balance your good stress, so they remain good for you.
